Matthew 8:5-13
New King James Version (NKJV)
Jesus Heals a Centurion’s Servant
5 Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, 6 saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.”7 And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.”
8 The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
10 When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!
As we analyze this passage of scripture, we have no way of determining the belief or faith of the centurion nor his servant. All we know is that this centurion looked for Jesus and when he found him, he didn't beat around the bush about what his request was. Somewhere in the midst of this meeting the centurion showed his faith in a what he believed Jesus could do. " 8 The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. " The Centurion had never experience one of Jesus' miracles. He operated off what he heard about this Man called Jesus. How was this centurion to know if Jesus was really Jesus? His heart saw the authority of Jesus. The centurion recognized authority, and he recognized that he was not worthy to have the great high priest set foot under his roof. He believed that Jesus' Authority demanded results. He knew from his position of authority that certain things we're accomplished by the sound of his voice. He knew that Healing was a servant to Jesus. He spoke it and the servant could be healed.
As "Christians" do we operate in the authority that has been given us, or do we question the power of God in us and retreat to the place of doubt. Are you allowing the power that God has bestowed upon you to determine you faith, or are you allowing doubt to dress you in a peasant attire and the courtship is asking were is the KING(believer).
